WEDDING TRADITION IN INDIA

 

TRADITIONS and CULTURE are probably the first words that came to our mind on hearing the word INDIA. No wonder that India is a influenced by high number of traditions and culture since the British rule. It therefore comes to no surprise that marriages in India is marked by a lot of customs and traditions.

A series of rites and rituals are followed when it comes to INDIAN TRADITIONAL WEDDING.
Different regions of the country follows its own customs and traditions in a unique way which probably makes INDIA different from many others. Though many rituals are followed, the sole purpose lies in the happiness and prosperity of the couple.
The ceremonies which are held before the wedding are considered as important as the wedding.

The most important one of all is the SAGAI or ENGAGEMENT CEREMONY. The couple exchanges rings as their symbol of love and initiates their HAPPY MARRIAGE LIFE.
Many ceremonies like Haldi, Mehendi, Sangeet also takes place prior to the wedding day.

On the wedding day, the parents give the bride away but do not eat before the wedding to remain pure for the occasion. The bride’s dress is tied to the grooms scarf.The couple then walks around a sacred fire seven times taking vows of togetherness popularly known as SAAT PHERE.


The northern part of India prefers this ritual to be held at night while the southern part believes that this ritual must be done under the presence of sunlight.The day is then concluded with prayers to god requesting happines and love for the newlyweds. Among the post marriage rituals, Pag Phere and Mooh Dekhai are considered to be very important.

There is a certain beauty in these traditions that attracts the foreigners and probably is the main reason of spreading these rituals on an international

level. India being known for its diversity, reflects a huge amount of positivity through its rituals and customs which can be greatly seen by INDIAN TRADITIONAL WEDDINGS. In a very short span of time, India has increased its wedding platform to international level which will definately brings out true colours of joy and happiness in the whole world.
